Associate Professor, Philosophy and Director, Ethics Center
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts, Boston invites applications for an Associate Professor to direct its new Applied Ethics Center with an expected start date of September 1, 2017. The position requires a deep grounding in applied ethics very broadly construed to include issues in: science and technology, medical ethics, business ethics, global development ethics, environmental ethics and climate change policy, human rights, moral psychology, race, gender, education and other areas.
Applicants must have a Ph.D.in philosophy, unless distinguished work in philosophy is combined with an equivalent terminal degree. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in organizational development and fundraising, a distinguished record of relevant scholarship, and a national reputation. In addition a successful candidate will have an interest in interdisciplinary work and faculty collaboration, and will have demonstrated excellence in teaching. Job responsibilities include teaching 2-3 courses per year at the undergraduate level, grant writing and events planning.

Postdoc 1 : Political or Moral Philosophy
A postdoctoral position is available as part of the research program of the Practical Justice Initiative within the philosophy stream of the School of Humanities and Languages. The area of specialisation is flexible within the field of moral and political philosophy. However, the program of research will be expected to enhance the research focus of the Practical Justice Initiative. Major research areas currently being undertaken include topics within climate justice and contemporary egalitarianism.
Postdoctoral Research Fellows – GREYZONE =&0=&h – Social and Political Science
We are seeking two Postdoctoral Research Fellows to work with Dr Mihaela Mihai on an ERC-funded project entitled ‘Illuminating the “Grey Zone”: Addressing Complex Complicity in Human Rights Violations.’ Situated at the frontier between political science, political theory, history, literature and cinema, this project seeks to shift the focus of debates in Transitional Justice by focusing on the grey zone of collaborators, bystanders and indirect beneficiaries of injustice.
You will have experience of conducting high quality academic research in a field relevant to this project, and should be willing to engage with a variety of literatures beyond the narrow confines of your own research field.
These two posts are both full-time and fixed-term for 48 months. The posts are available from 1st January 2016.
